Holi -Celebarated at Kansas.

History Behind Holi : In India everyone celebrates Holi but there is a very few amount of people who exactly knows the reason behind its celebration and origin. Holi is an ancient festival of India and was originally known as 'Holika'. Its origin is connected with the story of Prahlad, the son of the evil King Hiranyakashyap. Prahlad was a devotee of lord Vishnu, whereas his father hated Vishnu. Instead, he bounded everyone to worship his idol and whoever would go against his orders he used to kill them. He tried hard to kill his son Prahlad too but every time Lord Vishnu saved him. After several attempts of killing Prahlad going in vain, Hiranyakashyap went to his sister Holika who had a boon to remain unscathed by fire. He asked her sister to take Prahlad and sit on the fire. So she followed her brother's wishes. However, with this sinful act against Lord Narayana's devotee, Holika's boon ended and she was burnt to ashes, while Prahlad came out safe. From that very moment onwards Holi is celebrated as the festival of the victory of good over evil. Even today, bonfires are lit on the night before Holi in memory of the event and burning of the evil Holika.

Celebrating Holi : Holi is the most popular festival of colors celebrated in India during the Spring season. Holi is the festival for both young and old hearts because the festival has no bar on age. Different people have their different ways to enjoy holi. Pouring colors, dancing on traditional Holi songs, rhythmic drum beats and wild processions are the most common scenes that one comes across during this festival. Splashing waters on each other is also a common way of enjoying holi. "Holi Hai...Holi Hai..." is what the people keep singing with colors all over their face.
Various kind of sweets are made and distributed to friends and family which also marks the togetherness of holi. Basically holi is the only festival where people can play different pranks on each other, play with each other, and eat and enjoy with maintaining the love and respect. It is said that in holi the old hearts also become young and enjoy holi at the fullest as it comes once in a year.
Time of Holi : Though holi does not has a fixed date in English calendar it is celebrated in the month of March-April. The dates vary every year due to the fact that the Hindu calendar is based on solar cycles
